Ameen Rihani is the founding father of Arab-American literature. His early English writings mark the beginning of a body of literature that is Arab in its concern, culture and characteristic, English in language, and American in spirit and platform. He is the first Arab to write English essays, poetry, novels, short stories, art critiques, and travel chronicles. He published his works in the U. S. during the first three decades of the twentieth century. In this sense, he is the forerunner of American literature written by well known Middle Eastern writers.

Other descriptions:

Freike is a village in Metn District of Mount Lebanon. Twenty kilometers away from Beirut, its altitude is 500 meters above the sea with approximately 1200 habitants. Freike is a village known for the agriculture of grapes, fig trees, and olive trees. It gave Lebanon, other than Ameen Rihani, well known figures in the Arab media during the first half of the twentieth century, namely Na’oum and Salloum Moukarzel the owners of Al-Huda newspaper in New York. The Silk factory that was owned by Fares Rihani, father of Ameen, at the end of the nineteenth century is now owned by the theatre producer Mounir Abu Debs where cultural activities are organized regularly. Freike diligently preserves the Birth Place and the Museum of Ameen Rihani.
